(Seattle, WA) — U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released a new TV ad, titled Texas, and two new digital ads highlighting how MAGA Republican Tiffany Smiley endorsed the Texas abortion ban — one of the most extreme in the nation, with no exceptions for rape or incest — and how, if elected, Smiley would jeopardize reproductive rights even here in Washington state.

The ads feature Smiley telling supporters that she is “100 percent pro-life,” and make clear that “In the Senate, Tiffany Smiley would help Mitch McConnell ban abortion for the whole country. Patty Murray is fighting back to protect a woman’s right to make her own personal decisions.”

In supporting the Texas abortion ban, Smiley admitted “there’s a lot of parts of it that make it very hard for me in Washington state.”

  • The Texas abortion ban includes no exceptions for rape or incest and allows private citizens to sue any doctor who performs an abortion, as well as friends, relatives, or civilians who assist someone in getting an abortion — for example, by helping them make an appointment or giving them a ride to a clinic.
  • Since the Texas law was enacted, there have been countless horrific stories of women being denied essential health care, including prenatal and maternity care, as a direct result of the ban and the legal chaos it has unleashed.

Murray is a leader in the right to protect women’s health care, and the Washington Post recently characterized Murray as, “the single most effective Democratic combatant against Republican attempts to restrict abortion and otherwise roll back reproductive health-care rights on Capitol Hill.”
